Paul LoDuca, Your My New Hero!!!! (NL East Update)

The AP reports that the reason why Paul LoDuca picked to sign with the Washington Nationals for 5 Million smackers is because he gets to play the Mets 18 times. Now I thought I hated the New York Mets the most, but maybe I now have a competitor. I am not sure the Nationals are a true competitor, but they believe they are and so does LoDuca. He says "the NL East is wide open." In three weeks, Lastings Milledge changed teams to the play Center or Right for the Nationals from the Mets, and the Marlins lost their best hitter and best pitcher to the AL. Wide Open? Maybe not.

The Mets are yet to make a splash in Free Agency. The Phillies added Brad Lidge, a heck of a closer. The Nats added Lastings and LoDuca. Lastings has underachieved so far, but could be ready for a break out year. Who knows? But what is the Nats Depth Chart looking like? Let's see.

C LoDuca
1B Dmitri Young... BLAH
2B Ronnie Belliard.. BLAH
SS Cristian Guzman
3B Ryan Zimmerman
LF Wily Mo Pena
CF Lastings Milledge
RF Austin Kearns

To me, this looks like a solid lineup that could make some noise if they had some pitching. IF they had some pitching. They really don't. Undrafted Jason Bergmann is their number one. With that said, I think they are looking to add depth. But With the lack of money they have, they will be waiting until pitchers are desperate. With that said, the Nats are not in the race for the NL East or the Wild Card.

Around the rest of the NL East:
The Marlins are dead. The Mets won't trade Reyes, so they have no shot at a big name pitcher. They will compete with the Phillies for the crown, but whoever wins the race in free agency and the trade market to add starting pitching depth, will win this division. What about the Braves? Well the Braves are quiet, but they did win the Division year in year out for about 15 years. SO never count them out.
